Cupertino Chinese School was founded in
1990 with the mission to serve the
community in Cupertino and its adjacent
cities and to pass on the Chinese
language and culture through teaching
Chinese language. The School is a
non-profit organization and recruits
students of Chinese heritage and other
ethnic groups who are interested in
learning Chinese language and culture.
The Cupertino Chinese School operates on
Friday evenings between 7 PM and 9PM.
The classes take place at Kennedy Junior
High School and Monta Vista High School.
The School offers more than 30 language
classes from pre-K to 12thgrade. We
have a total of 650 students. We use the
traditional phonetic symbol system and
pinyin method in teaching beginners; we
also teach direct character recognition.
In the summer, the School offers one
month long cultural camp that includes
language instruction, mental math,
pottery, chess, jewelry making and other
cultural crafts. In addition, the School
provides community programs to improve
community relationships. Community
programs are conducted by experienced
professionals in various fields. Program
classes include adult English and
Chinese conversation classes, after
school tutoring, chess class and beauty
and health forums.
The Cupertino Chinese School is governed
by the parent assembly of its student
body. The parent assembly elects the
board of directors and auditors to
strategize the operation of the School.
The board of directors and auditors
elects the principal who is responsible
for the day to day operations. All other
officers and positions are filled by
parent volunteers. The School has
several functional departments:
curriculum, public safety, operation,
activity and communications.
The mission of the Cupertino Chinese
School is to promote Chinese language
acquisition and culture learning. The
curriculum integrates cultivation of
character and ethics study that is core
to Chinese education. The School also
collaborates with other Bay Area Chinese
schools on activities, academic
competitions, and other community
events, for example, parenting speech
series, Chinese New Year’s fairs,
Teacher’s day celebration and other
community activities.
The Cupertino Chinese School is a
non-profit organization. The School has
been growing since its inception. Our
success is a direct result of the
efforts from all the teachers, parents
and students. Like our Chinese name for
the school, “Se-Yuan, meaning to
remember the source of water when you
drink it.” We wish to help our next
generation to remember their heritage
and to learn one of the most beautiful
cultures in the world. We continue to
ask for all of your encouragement and
support for the School.
